Artist Statement
My creative instincts were nurtured by the productive environment in my parents’ art studio where they published elegant stationery, greeting cards and art prints. Paper, paints, and all sorts of artsy things were a way of life, and always available to me.
Throughout school and college I enrolled in numerous art classes and workshops, mostly so I could use all the equipment for my own personal projects. After four years in the Navy, I returned to the business as a partner, creative director, and production manager. I enjoyed designing products and unique production methods that helped maintain our success. After 15 years and too many miles of business travel, I settled down with my new loving family and opened my own studio to create in my own personal style and explore new opportunities.
My father taught me, “If you want something truly unique, create it yourself.” I have spent most of my life doing just that . . . creating new things or reengineering what already exists. I enjoy tinkering. My greatest satisfaction comes not only from new ideas, but from experimenting with new techniques to achieve my desired goals.
How does this relate to rock art? Rock art is one of the most basic art forms. Creating replicas and original designs with today’s technology and resources, yet maintaining the awe and mystique of the ancient originals, is an exciting challenge. It’s like tinkering in reverse. It is also very rewarding to create art and have others appreciate and enjoy the effort and want to add my work to their own personal and corporate collections. I will keep doing what I do, and I will continue to honor those who were here long ago and left their art on the rocks for us to ponder.
