Orval Reeves

Please contact Hawthorn Galleries for availability and prices.

Orval Reeves is known for his sensitive depictions of the Ozark landscape. His dramatic use of light heightens the sense of place and Ozark melancholy. Reeves studied commercial art at the Burnley School of Commercial Art in Seattle, Washington in the early 1970s. He returned to Rolla, Missouri in 1976 and began painting the ever-changing Ozark landscape.

Reeves has shown his work in numerous shows and galleries, including the Gail Chase Gallery in Seattle, Elizabeth Rosier Gallery in Jefferson City, The World Trade Center in St. Louis, Missouri’s Top 50 Show, and Watercolor USA. Reeves’ painting Cliffty Creek Natural Bridge won first place in the acrylic and oil category in the Arts Rolla! 2002 Art Show.

Paintings by Orval Reeves are hanging in private collections throughout the world. A Reeves landscape hung in the White House during the Carter administration, and now hangs in the Carter Library. Missouri representative Joanne Emerson has a Reeves landscape hanging in her Washington DC office. Reeves has painted several commissioned works, including a painting of the Missouri Governor’s Mansion which Governor and Mrs. Carnahan used as their Christmas card in 1983.
