Don Goin was born in Southwest Missouri, and his family moved to Washington State when he was three years old. There he developed a love for majestic mountains and wildlife, and was given the opportunity to explore his rich Cherokee heritage. He began drawing mountains and wildlife as soon as he could hold a pencil, and at the ripe age of six he declared to his mother that he wanted to be an artist.
With no formal training, Goin began painting in oils at the age of sixteen. He painted for over thirty years until he made the transition to sculpture, eventually learning the technique of casting bronze. “Sculpting came naturally to me and I immediately decided that is where I belong.” In 1995, he set up a foundry at his home in Bruner, Missouri to cast his own work using the lost wax process. Goin’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Missouri, and won several awards, including the highest Standing Ovation Award in SVAA’s “For the Visual Arts: 6th Anniversary” Juried Exhibit.
